It is the responsibility of the Editors to drive International Journal of Pathology (IJP) towards its stated objectives and goals. In order to make IJP as one of the best and the finest international journal, the editors will have to contribute in terms of time and energy in various processes of the IJP. These include solicitation of high quality original research articles, interesting and useful case reports and update and current state of the art review articles.
The selection of the “right” editors for a journal is one of the most important decisions made by “editor-in-chief” and this will entirely be based upon merit. Chief Editor will be responsible for overall management and planning of IJP. He will make sure that IJP is brought regularly and well on time and that it contains quality articles. In case of dispute among Editorial Board members over acceptability of the papers, his decision will be final. He will run the affairs of the journal with consultation of other editors particularly managing editor and senior editors. He will implement and adhere to the journal’s editorial policy. He will have regular meetings of Editorial Board. Chief Editor will also develop reviewer guidelines, editorial rating criteria, and training materials for junior editors and take appropriate actions to obtain prompt reviews.
He will ensure the quality of published material, through peer-review, own comments, and editing. While selecting peer reviewers he will make sure that reviews are qualified, impartial, unbiased and fair and respond within the deadline. He will keep his communications with all the authors and reviewers and will also maintain the confidentiality of the review process.
He will also be reviewing the input of members of editorial board and those having no contribution may be replaced by the active members. He will ensure the smooth transition between editors. Long before an editor terminates an editorship, another editor should be selected. He will also maintain a database or file of all records including record of reviews, articles which have been published and also the record of even those articles which have been rejected (with comments of reason for their rejection). He will develop ways to keep the journal vital, lively, and useful for readers. He will encourage true research and will guide and encourage junior researchers to write papers. He himself will write editorials and/or obtain guest editorials. He will also make all his efforts to extend the range of the journal to new areas emerging in all the disciplines. In order to raise the standards of journal, he will promote original research, high quality articles. He will not compromise on quality and will have authority to reject any article which he thinks is not upto the mark. He will also ensure that undertaking form is received with each article and contains the information regarding contribution from authors and coauthors.
Managing Editor will be responsible for detailed implementation of the Journal’s policies and procedure. He/she will be responsible for making sure that articles are promptly processed for their evaluation, correction and if accepted for publication. He/ She will have close liaison with the authors, publisher and the advertisers. He/ She will keep all the record including financial. He/ She will write the minutes of meeting and present them in next meeting of editorial board.
Editors will be responsible for soliciting high quality articles for IJP. They will themselves submit at least one article each year which could be a review article or original research article. Editors of editorial board wil also keep on looking for case reports or photographs of some unusual cases. They will also help in reviewing the articles and rendering their valuable comments to improve the quality of the papers.
An editor of IJP will have ability to check all manuscripts and will propose the peer reviewers to review articles. He/she will also assist in planning and organizing of editorial board meetings. When submissions seem too few, he/she will actively seek new papers and encourage associate editors and editorial board members to do so, as well. He will recommend corrections to obvious format problems, particularly poor figures, in accordance with the IJP guidelines. He will edit or make editing suggestions on material under review, when necessary. He/ she will encourage new researchers and will help and guide them in writing papers. He/she will also make suggestions regarding improvement in quality and circulation of journal.
Junior Editors will be responsible for initial editing, proof reading, selecting pictures and figures. They will assist Editor in Chief and Managing Editor in timely brining out the journal.
The Section Editors will be responsible for soliciting high quality articles in their respective fields. They will contribute in the form of updates and review articles in addition to the original research article as well as case reports. They will make the journal more attractive by providing photomicrographs of interesting cases in their respective field. They will also inform about any upcoming academic activities in their respective fields. They will help with advertisements in order to help journal sustain on financial grounds.
